“Politically Incorrect” but Common-Sense Approaches to Health & Wellbeing

You are what you eat

Last week I went to see Don Tolman. I’d heard his name mentioned numerous times over the last few years & thought it was time for me to go along and listen. All I knew leading up to his talk was that he promoted healthy living and eating - something I’m interested in and already know a lot about, so I was looking forward to hearing a new perspective. (Which on a side note, is something we don’t do often enough - it’s too easy to say “I already know about that”, but unless you’re practicing it fully in your own life & getting the results you want, then effectively you don’t know it - you just know of it.)

So anyway, his message about food was the “Doctrine of Signatures” - no doubt you’ve heard of it before, but interesting to have another look at it to gain some further insight into the benefits of natural food to the human body.

Another article I came across recently on Natural News about Superfoods gives another point of view to the whole topic of the food you eat and what it does for your body.

The overwhelming message I’m getting - make whole natural foods, as unprocessed as possible (and organic if you can) the major portion of your eating - giving your body the building blocks it needs to make you as healthy as possible (of course only if that’s your goal).

Here is a list of the “Superfoods” that can do wonders for your body (and they taste pretty good too):

  • Avocados
  • Blueberries
  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Dark chocolate
  • Garlic
  • Honey
  • Kiwi Fruit
This isn’t an exhaustive list by any means - you can read more about this in the article itself.
Cheers

An apple a day……..

Over the last month or so, I’ve been researching the benefits of unpasteurised, organic Apple Cider Vinegar. It seems to be the only thing I can take to improve my digestion while I’m pregnant and it works a treat - decreases bloating and heartburn, which makes life a whole lot more comfortable for me, considering the baby is getting bigger & my insides are being pushed aside to make room :)

Given the amazing properties of apple cider vinegar, it’s not surprising that even the humble apple itself is so fantastic, as I discovered in this article from the website Natural News - “Apple peels contain twelve anti-cancer compounds called “triterpenoids”“. Click on the link to read the full article.

And just to let you now - new season apples are now coming into your local organic grocers. At the supermarket, you may only get old season apples that have been sitting in cold storage for months on end.

Why choose organic? As you’ll read at the end of the article, apples rank only second to peaches in terms of highest concentration of pesticides in non-organically grown produce; even washing doesn’t completely remove this residue. So reduce the toxic burden on your body & choose organic.

Organic Fruit & Veggies Delivered

I love the internet.

I’m 4 months pregnant now & while I’m not at the awkward cumbersome stage yet, the idea of going grocery shopping on my own & having to drag heavy bags up the stairs to my apartment isn’t appealing at all.

So I have re-activated my online shopping account with Greenline Organic & yesterday I got my first box of organic fruit, vegetables & some grocery items delivered right to my kitchen.

On the front page of the Greenline Organic website they have some great information about the benefits of eating organic and biodynamic produce.
Greenline organic is based in Melbourne (Australia), so if you don’t live in the “most live-able city in the world” then you might have to do a Google search for your local organic supplier.

If you have any links to great organic/biodynamic suppliers, let me know & I’ll include them in my links list.

Happy Eating :)
